The forge is an outstanding monument to the areas industrial heritage and houses a unique collection of working stationary engines. It was built in the 18th century and its water wheels, sluices, dam and hammers are still intact. Wortley Top Forge is Britain's last water powered heavy iron forge and a relic of the once important iron industry.
