Situated on the old medieval salt way route, this isolated Inn has history that can be traced back to the Elizabethan period. Originally a farmhouse and alehouse, supplying shelter and refreshment for travellers crossing the hostile moors of the Pennines. Originally known as Border Hill House and owned by the Gothard family, the Inn became known as the Dog and Partridge on receipt of its first licence in 1740. Since that time it has been under the ownership of many local prominent land owning families such as the Paynes of Frickley Hall, Bosvilles of Gunthwaite Hall and the Pilkingtons of Chevet Hall who still own the surrounding grouse moors today. Today the Dog and Partridge is a family run Inn and hotel and is open all year round and offers a warm and friendly to all who visit. Fresh home cooked meals are served daily in the bar with traditional roasts being served on a Sunday. The ‘Swinden’ room with views over the Langsett moors is ideal for families wishing to visit the Dog and Partridge. This is also available for private functions and business meetings. Entertainment is provided most days of the week. The Dog and Partridge has been famous for over 30 years for its traditional sing-a-longs that take place every Saturday and Sunday evening. The resident organist accompanies these and all newcomers are welcome. Our opening times are 12pm to 11pm daily. Food is served 12pm to 9pm Monday to Friday, 12pm to 9.30pm Saturday and 12pm to 8pm Sundays. Bank Holidays 12pm to 5pm.. |
